The Process of Straightening Teeth From an Invisalign® Dentist

What Is Invisalign®?

Most problems people have with crooked, misaligned or protruding teeth can be successfully treated by an Invisalign® dentist. Invisalign®, which resembles the plastic trays that whiten teeth, is a preferred alternative to metal braces. Fitted by an Invisalign® dentist, these transparent plastic trays (aligners) fit snugly over the teeth and, over a period of time, incrementally move the crooked teeth into the desired position.

The length of treatment depends on how serious the problem is. In most cases, Invisalign® works in less time than traditional metal braces. Most adults wear these aligners from anywhere from six months to a year or, perhaps a little more.

How Does Invisalign® Straighten Teeth?

At your initial consultation at our dental office in Wilmington, we will evaluate your dental problems in detail. The assessment will include taking X-rays and impressions of your teeth that will later be developed into a 3D model. This 3D model enables us, as an Invisalign® dentist, to create an individualized treatment plan. That includes a series of smooth, thin, clear aligners that are specially made for your mouth.

An aligner is worn for approximately two weeks at a time until replaced with a new one. Every set of aligners is shaped slightly differently, which causes teeth to shift slowly into a new position, which is one small step towards the final goal. By the end of your treatment period, your teeth will have moved into a straighter, and more attractive position, creating your perfect smile.

The Benefits Of Invisalign®

While there are several types of braces available, for a number of reasons Invisalign® is often the preferred method to straighten teeth. The most obvious being that the clear plastic is virtually invisible. Also, unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign® is removable, making it much easier to drink and eat anything you like for the entire course of your treatment.

The aligners used with Invisalign® can also be removed when you brush your teeth, making it easier to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth them. One of Invisalign’s® best features is that well before you start your treatment, a 3D virtual model enables you to ‘see’ the final result as planned by our dentist office. We will go over the plan at our Wilmington dental office before the treatment even begins to give you a glimpse into your beautiful future.

How Long Does Invisalign® Take To Work?

The time in which your treatment takes depends on a variety of factors including the condition of your bite, and how crooked or crowded your teeth are. On average, for most adults, the treatment process is about a year but can last up to two years. Aligners need to be worn faithfully for approximately 20 to 22 hours every day, for the entire duration of your treatment. The results greatly depend on how consistently you do so.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

Since 1997, when it was introduced to the market, more than 3 million happy smiles have been attributed to Invisalign® and the number keeps growing. Because of its ease of use, Invisalign® is the number one choice for most people looking to straighten their teeth. It causes little or no interference with daily life, and there is virtually no pain or discomfort during the treatment period. As an Invisalign® dentist in Wilmington, we can help you obtain the smile you desire.
